BLURB from Goodreads
Five years.

That’s how long I’ve been gone. Since I left my best friend—the girl I loved—behind.

Five seconds.

That's how long it takes to realize I am completely, utterly, screwed. Because now that I’m back, my childhood crush has turned into so much more.

Rylee has changed. We both have. And now I’m drawn to her in a completely different way. To her smile. Her touch. To reliving old memories and making new ones. To the happiness she’s always given me that I haven’t felt since I left.

But her friends are hell-bent on keeping us apart. My dad is one drink away from destroying both of our lives, and maybe I am, too. It’s only a matter of time before I have to leave again, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I never get a choice.

The one choice I can make? Stay away from Rylee. Because if I don’t, I’ll break her heart—and mine—all over again.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Erin is a young adult author from North Carolina. She is a morning person who does most of her writing before sunrise, while drinking excessive quantities of coffee. She believes flip-flops qualify as year-round footwear, and would spend every day at the beach if she could. She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics, which is almost never useful when writing books.

EXCERPT
I fed a dollar bill into the machine, pressed the Pepsi button, and waited for the soda can to drop. Meridian’s cafeteria was set up just like all the others I’d been in: long tables scattered with red plastic trays and lunch bags. The students were the same, too. Some in large groups. Some loners. Others somewhere in between.

Mya and D’Andre’s group was one of the somewhere in between. Not the stuck up crowd, not the shy and quiet crowd. They really were nice people. All the more reason to turn around and get out of there.

Except…hold on.

The girl sitting next to Mya was kind of gorgeous. Her long brown hair fell over a blue sweater that had slipped off one shoulder to reveal porcelain skin. She bit her lip in an unintentionally sexy way.

I retrieved my soda, but lingered at the machine for a second, scanning the table for the football-playing boyfriend no doubt waiting to scoop the hot girl into his arms.
Wait. What was I doing, anyway? Hot or not, I wasn’t about to get mixed up with some girl.
I wedged my finger under the tab of the soda can—

And the girl looked right at me—

And the cafeteria disappeared.

Suddenly I was back in middle school, shoulder to shoulder with Rylee and our favorite graphic novel, taking turns reading the pages out loud, ignoring the insults that were hurled at us. It was the two of us against the world. Or at least it had been five years ago…
The soda can slipped through my fingers, hit the ground, and exploded all over the floor, the walls, and my pants. When I looked up, it wasn’t just one pair of eyes on me anymore. It was all of them.

“Shit,” I muttered, and spun around. Time to get the hell out of there.
I turned a corner into an empty hall, stopped, and leaned back against the wall.
Rylee Dunn was here. The girl who’d been my everything. The girl I’d left behind.

Meridian High just became a lot more complicated.
