Can the love of a lifetime be forever changed by one pink line? Dina Silver’s tender, absorbing novel, One Pink Line, is the warmhearted, wry story of love, loss and family, as seen through the prism of one singular, spirited young couple who find themselves in a predicament that changes the course of their lives, and those closest to them. With heart, humor and compassion, this debut work of women’s fiction is certain to stir anyone who relishes a good laugh, can stand a good cry, and, above all believes in the redemptive power of love.

This unique, contemporary story gives readers a dual perspective. Sydney Shephard, a sweet-tempered, strong-natured college senior is young, in love with an exceptional man, and unexpectedly pregnant. Faced with a child she never planned for, she is forced to relay this news to her neurotic mother, relinquish her youth, and risk losing the love of her life. Then there’s Grace, a daughter, who believed she was a product of this great love, grows to realize her existence is not what she assumed, and is left with profound and puzzling questions about who she really is.

Spanning generations and every imaginable emotion, One Pink Line reveals how two points of view can be dramatically at odds, and perhaps ultimately reconciled. Simultaneously deeply felt and lighthearted, One Pink Line deftly mines how the choices we make are able to alter so many lives, and how doing the right thing and living honestly can bring unexpected, hard-won happiness. It’s a must-read for anyone who relishes a great love story, absorbing characters, and plenty of laughs along the way.

MY REVIEW
Well I initially downloaded this book from NetGalley, but there seemed to be some formatting issues and words and paragraphs were mixed up. I sent a message to NetGalley and received a message from the Author herself who immediately suggested sending me a paperback copy. Which she did, so thank you Dina.
The cover really fits the book well, and of course re-enforces the whole pink theme. The title is perfect for the book, as the moment everything changes is when the Pink Line appears.
The book features two stories really, there is Sydney's story, which is where the One Pink Line comes in. The other story is Grace's story of finding out she was born before her parents married, and the man she thinks of as her dad is not her biological father.
Sydney has had a relationship with Ethan for a while. Throughout the summer they become inseparable and agree to stay faithful to each other, yet still enjoy a college social life.
All is going well until one night everything changes, and Sydney finds out she is pregnant and the father isn't her long term boyfriend! Sydney is a strong individual, and is independent. Sydney's relationship is not great and she has always been closer to her older sister Kendra and her father.
Sydney has to face telling everyone what has happened. All this is going on whilst her final exams are too. She has dilemma after dilemma to solve. i personally think that Sydney really tries to make good out of a bad situation, and certainly doesn't deserve some of the reactions to her.
The other story is about Grace, she's a young girl who has a mum and dad who dearly love her. Then one day after sex ed classes she realises the possibility that te man she calls dad may not actually be her biological father. Obviously she wants answers, but her mother is reluctant to divulge much. Grace has had some contact with her biological fathers family, though it's so long ago she can hardly remember them. they are simply a name on a birthday or Christmas card. Grace makes up a perfect biological father image in her head, and then has the urge to meet this man and see for herself what he is really like.
All the time this is going on her dad still loves her and tells her that and supports her in every way he can.
Wow where do I start? I loved this book. It flows really well, with the two stories running together. You have a chapter on Sydney, then switch to a chapter from Grace, it worked really well. I didn't want to put the book down. It has love, anger, friendship and romance. This book is an emotional one, yet still heart warming along with the heart ache there are some happy times along the way too.
The book also takes a look at lots of different relationships and how they change. For example Sydney's relationship with her mother has never been a brilliant one, she was always made to feel second best and inadequate next to her sister Kendra. Sydneys relationship with Kendra is a loving one, in that Kendra seems to do more of the "mothering to Sydney. However when the "One Pink Line" happens it marks a slow thawing out of the frosty relationship Sydney has with her mum.
I don't really wish to say anymore because I really want everyone to read the book and make their own conclusions and connections and opinions on the book without me spoiling anything for them. The characters are so well written you really do feel like you know them well by the end of the book.
So did I enjoy this book? LOVED IT Would I read more by Dina Silver? DEFINITELY
Would I recommend this book? YES! I have already suggested the book to my daughter and my mum too. This book really suits a wide age group. A MUST read!
