ESCAPING TITANIC; A YOUNG GIRLS TRUE STORY OF SURVIVAL BY MARYBETH LORBIECKI

BLURB from the Back cover.

Twelve-year-old Ruth Becker is sailing on the Titanics maiden voyage. The unsinkable ship's luxury is beyond her wildest dreams.

But in the early morning hours of April 15th, 1912, Ruth and her family are suddenly aware that the grand ship is in trouble.

Her mother, brother, and sister escape on a lifeboat, while Ruth remains on deck.

Will she be stranded on the Titanic?

MY REVIEW

This book was sent to me by Capstone Press, the publishers, for me to read and review for my Titanic Feature on my blog.
It is aimed at 5-10 year olds, and it is based on a young girls true story of survival on the night the Titanic sank. It is a large picture book in style. The book contains large illustrations and a large print to make it easy for young children to read and not be overcome by the amount of words on a page to be read.

The illustrations are beautiful and very child friendly and I would compare them them to the lovely Disney type quality.
The book contains lots of factual information, such as, hoe high the ship was and its length. The pictures depict the inside of the Titanic, the beauty of it and the glamour. The story also show the difference in the classes that were boarding the Titanic.

The story is beautifully written and told. The book has a happy ending for Ruth as she is reunited with her family. though the book also covers the fact that people were also lost at sea. I thought the addition of the timeline of the tragedy was good so that children can see the timing of everything that happened.

I also liked the addition of Afterword which is more for the older child, parent or teacher to read out to the younger child, s that they know what happened to ruth after she survived the sinking of the Titanic.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes, its beautifully presented and ideal for reading time!
Would I recommend it? Yes, I would recommend to all with young children, this could be read and then further projects done about the Titanic in schools/groups or even at home.
I would also recommend Capstone Press as they seem to do these type of childrens illustrated books so well.
