AUTHOR INTERVIEW - J.E.HOPKINS

What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
J.E. Hopkins. I was born and raised in NY. I’ve been here all my life and I am so addicted to this crazy city that I doubt I will ever leave.

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I’ve always enjoyed writing as a hobby, but I never thought of it as a career. I wanted to be a doctor, accountant, sports reporter, etc. Finally, I ended up as a lawyer and writer.

Did it take a long time to get your first book published?

I decided to self-publish so it did not take me as long as it would have had I traditionally published.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarise it in less than 20 words what would you say?

We Shall Rise, Misfits of the Lore Series (Book#2). Two vampires finding love in the midst of an immortal race war that threatens to destroy all supernatural creatures.

Who is your publisher? or do you self publish?

Self published.

What can we expect from you in the future? More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

We Shall Rise is the second book in my Misfits of the Lore Series. I am working on Book #3, but I also plan to write other contemporary books as well. I am not limiting myself to one genre. Right now I am focusing on paranormal romance, but my first novel The Broken is a story about child abuse.

Do you have anybody read your books and give you reviews before you officially release them? ie. Your partner, children, friends, reviewers you know?

Not the entire book, but I try to get feedback from a few trusted sources.

How do you market/promote your books?

Promotion is always a challenge. It’s difficult finding out which promotion avenues are the best and then finding the time to devote to it. I have used some promotional sites, blog tours, and social media to get the word out. I am still looking for that silver bullet for promotion, but I am learning more every day.

What do you think makes a book a really good/bestseller ?

You have to tell a good, well developed story that people can relate to otherwise, you have no hope of becoming a bestseller. Quality is fundamental to success, but you also need a little luck in there to help you get enough recognition.

Do you or would you ever use a pen name?

I use J.E. Hopkins. It’s sort of a pen name, but it’s just my initials.

Where can readers follow you?
