AUTHOR INTERVIEW - CAMBRIA HEBERT

  1. What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
My name is Cambria Hebert and I am a werewolf – a- holic.  Oh wait, that isn’t this kind of meeting….   I was born in a small town in Western Maryland and I currently live in North Carolina.
  1. Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
I have wanted to be a lot of things in my day. A singer, a writer, a flying trapeze artist (no, not really, lol). When I first went to college I wanted to be in mass communications and make TV commercials… then I changed my mind and went to cosmetology school. I’ve also thought about becoming a dietician.
  1. When did you first consider yourself as a "writer"?
Well, I kind of always secretly thought of myself as a writer once I started writing seriously… but I never actually told anyone that’s what I was until I got my publishing contract.
  1. Did it take a long time to get your first book published?
Yes. It took a lot of patience. I tried for almost 3 years to get an agent or a publisher. During that time I wrote a lot of books. I spent a lot of time trying to find an agent and I never got one, it went a little faster once I started looking for a small publisher.

  1. Do you work another job as well as your writing work?
I’m lucky because right now I don’t have a “day” job. I am a stay at home mom. So I do have two kids that I take care of. My son just went to school this year (kindergarten) and I had planned to get a job but then I got my publishing contract and my husband and I decided that I would spend this year writing and promoting what I was having published. This is really all I want to do so if I can make a go of it I would really be happy.
  1. What genre would you place your books into?
Definitely YA paranormal. My short story Whiteout might be a crossover (a young adult that also is suitable for adult)
  1. Do you have a favourite out of the books you have written? If so why is it your favourite?
Well, that’s kind of hard because I love all my books… I worked really hard on them all.  They each have something special about them that I love.  But there is one book that I really hold special to me… it’s not the first book I wrote but to me it’s what really put me on the path I am on now. It’s titled Glacier, its not published yet, though I hope some day it will be. It’s the first book in a series of four and its about werewolves.
  1. Do you have a favourite character from your books? and why are they your favourite?
I do have a favourite. It makes me feel kind of guilty, like I’m picking one child over the other but I really do have one I absolutely love. In fact, I love him so much my husband and I call him the other man in my life. Lol. His name is Thadd and he is the main character in the werewolf series I mentioned above.
  1. Do you have anybody read your books and give you reviews before you officially release them?
I have an editor who reads them and recently I took on a Beta reader to catch any mistakes that my editor and I don’t see. Once you have read a book about a thousand times you don’t see the errors because you know what its supposed to say, you know? There were a few typos in the review copy I sent out of Before so I took on a Beta to help us with the proofing. I also have a few good friends that have read my books but they just read them and tell me what they think, they don’t look for typos and such. My publisher also reads them. J
  1. Do you gift books to readers to do reviews?
I do. For Before I gave out a PDF review copy for the reviewers and I am doing the same for Whiteout and Masquerade.  I don’t pay anyone for reviews but I do give a free copy of the book. I really appreciate all the time and thought that a reviewer puts into reading my work.
  1. Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Every single one.
  1. What was the toughest/best review you have ever had?
I haven’t been getting reviews for very long. I just sent out the review copies for Before and just today for Whiteout.  So I only have a handful back so far. I have been pretty fortunate to be getting pretty good reviews so far. I get pretty nervous about Before because it is so short and it ends on a cliffhanger – its really supposed to do that to set up Masquerade and really be an intro into the characters lives and setting, but still it is short and a lot of people don’t like short books…. To be honest I like the long stuff too! Lol. But I wanted to get Before out there to get people excited for Masquerade. (I have read Before see my review here and you are so right Cambria I can't wait to read Masquerade now!)
  1. Your blog details?
I do have a blog. I have a lot of reviews that I have done and still do, I also have guest posts from authors and other bloggers and I have quite a few random posts where I blabber on about stuff. I also had a werewolf week that was very successful – I plan to do that again soon! Here’s the address: http://www.theunlockeddiary.blogspot.com
