PANDEMONIUM BY LAUREN OLIVER

Delirium was the first book in a thrilling dystopian trilogy in which Lena Haloway dared to go against all the rules and fall in love with the rebellious, free spirited Alex. Lena and Alex decided that they should both escape before Lena was forced against her own will to have the cure, the government-mandated procedure that renders a person immune to the disease of love. Lena and Alex staked their lives on leaving their oppressive society, but only Lena managed break free. It seems Alex sacrificed his life to aid her escape, or did he really die?
Pandemonium is book two in the series and continues Lena’s gripping story. After escaping from Portland, Maine, Lena makes it to the Wilds and is found half dead by the people of the wilds, who do not kill her as the governement led everyone to believe they would do to people, they actually nurse her back to health. Lena becomes part of an Invalid community, where she transforms herself into a warrior for the resistance. A future without Alex is painfully unimaginable, but Lena pushes forward and fights, both for him and for a world in which love is no longer considered a disease. Swept up in a volatile mix of revolutionaries and counterinsurgents, Lena struggles to survive—and wonders if she may be falling in love again.

This is the second book in this series and is full of danger, with more forbidden romance and the beautifully descriptive writing we expect from Lauren Oliver. Pandemonium rushes forward at a breathtaking, sometimes breakneck pace and I feel it will appeal to the fans who love dystopia such as Birthmarked, Prized, and Ashfall among others. I continued to love the character of Lena, how life changes her, yet a part of her always remembers the past, she adopts different personas for her different situations. There are three types of society referred to in this book, the Government ruled DFA, the Invalids and the Scavengers. Lena comes in to contact with each of these sections, and we see how she has to adapt, to survive. Of course all the time as things are happening to Lena she is still thinking of her mother whom she now knows escaped from the Crypts and is not dead as she was led to believe. Lena also feels regret and guilt about Alex not making it over to the wilds with her. You literally feel her heart breaking when she thinks of him. This is well written and even more action packed than book one was. The ending is left in such a way that it strongly suggest that there will be a book three and it also ends on a great cliff-hanger too. You end the book with as many questions as you started it with just different ones! This book has introduced more people for you to care about, Raven, Tack and Hunter in addition to you wondering what will happen to the characters who are still around in book two from the first book. How will Lena cope with the latest turn of events?
Also love the cover on this book!
Definitely well worth buying, or at the very least put it on your wish list now!

The date for release is 6th March 2012!
